How to stick Plastics is such a challenging task to undertake so much so that many times people just give up the ghost. A few questions have to be asked, such as why are Plastics so difficult to stick or why are Plastics used so frequently as opposed to other materials such as wood, glass or fibre.

 

Plastics have a much longer life span than wood and are cheaper to produce. However, sticking Plastic is so difficult for various reasons. All Plastics are man-made with a completely different molecular makeup, these molecules tightly packed together create a ceramic like finish. The products available for sticking Plastics are very limited in their performance. Also there are hundreds of different variations of Plastic which increases the difficulty.

                       

Two component epoxies are traditionally used for sticking Plastic where the hardener part of the epoxy etches into the Plastic creating a bond but it’s still difficult to penetrate this tough molecular surface as outlined. The epoxy will not remain flexible so when it comes to sticking Plastic it’s very hit and miss. The other popular glue for sticking Plastic is

a superglue type adhesive namely cyanaryclate which has a high concentrate of solvent. This type can be effective for sticking Plastics but not all Plastics but really performs no better than epoxies.

 

The perfect product for sticking Plastics is the unique CT1 construction adhesive and sealant. This is the product everybody is talking about not just for sticking Plastics but for sticking a multitude of different materials. So why is CT1 so good for sticking Plastics? Well firstly CT1 is composed from a unique formulation of a hybrid polymer with no petro chemicals in its makeup so this allows the CT1 to flow into the pours of the Plastic to create an immediate grab, perfect for sticking Plastics. The curing process starts almost instantly resulting in a formidable bond in sticking Plastic which will remain flexible.

 

CT1 is used frequently by p.v.c. installers for fascias and box guttering, their comments are that “it’s the best thing since sliced bread” for sticking Plastic. Numerous sign makers are using CT1 for sticking various Plastic signs. It is advisable before sticking the Plastic to roughen the surface beforehand with either hard grain glass paper or a wire brush. In addition, especially when sticking Plastic , clean the surface even if the Plastic is clean as there can often be an oxide, (greasy) layer.
