Bond Wood to Aluminium

Wood expands and contracts a lot compared to metal. You cannot prevent this so you must allow for it in the bond line. That means using a thick bond line, (like 1/8” or more) and a very flexible, (rubbery) adhesive. This is where CT1 comes into the equation and will stick wood to aluminium perfectly. To adhere wood to aluminium in itself is a difficult challenge due to the porosity of wood and the oxides within the aluminium.

CT1 unique sealant and construction adhesive will create a formidable attachment between aluminium and wood due to its unique formulation. CT1 is a unique hybrid polymer that is 100% Eco – Compliant, it will not shrink but has a 350% elongation. This aspect is paramount when gluing wood to aluminium even in exterior applications. Many of these exterior projects can be very challenging due to weather conditions where work halts due to rain. CT1 can be applied on wet surfaces even underwater.

CT1 can be painted with any type of paint. When using CT1 to stick wood to aluminium there is absolutely no need for any additional fixings as the cured bond will be 277N/CM² you could say that the wood and aluminium are welded together. It is very important to clean the aluminium before sticking, even if the aluminium is new, due to the oxides. CT1 Multisolve is brilliant for this as it is a stand-alone aliphatic solvent that degreases almost anything. CT1 Multisolve was initially developed to remove old adhesive but has several other uses.

The initial grab of CT1 adhesive and sealant is very high, but for extreme loads CT1 Power Grab n Bond is a ground breaking construction adhesive. Heavy sheets of aluminium can be adhered immediately onto a wood frame with no sliding.
